Isn’t it amazing that women were created with an organ designed solely for our sexual pleasure and arousal? And of course we have many other erogenous zones as well. Our female bodies have the capacity for intense sexual enjoyment.
I got thinking about this the other day when I read various statements from pastors who think sexual pleasure is mainly the husband’s purview. Just for men.
- Pastor Doug Wilson believes “The sexual act cannot be made into an egalitarian pleasuring party. A man penetrates, conquers, colonizes, plants. A woman receives, surrenders, accepts.”
- Pastor Josh Howerton told his congregation “Now ladies when it comes to his wedding night, he has been planning this day his whole life. So just stand where he tells you to stand and wear what he tells you to wear and do what he tells you to do and you’re going to make him the happiest man in the world. That’s it.”
I found both of these statements disturbing. Wilson of course for believing that sex is not an “egalitarian pleasuring party” (I pity his wife Nancy) and for Howerton referring to the wedding night as “his” wedding night and turning the bride into a passive body that he can order around for his own enjoyment. Nothing is said of her dreams and desires for this night as though it’s not important. Well, to Howerton it isn’t.
It seems to me women in some religious environments are being taught to be compliant, willing vessels with no sexual needs of their own. Maybe they’ll be satisfied sexually by their partner, maybe not. Doesn’t matter.
Now I’d like to think that these far-right preachers are unique in their views but I tend to think that most men are not as concerned that their female partner is fulfilled. I have no data for this, just anecdotal bits and pieces. Quotes and stories.
But now we come back to the clitoris. Why were women designed with this unique pleasure organ? Why do other parts of our bodies heighten our sexual arousal when touched? Just a wild guess here, but I’m thinking our bodies were designed for sexual pleasure. Our sexual pleasure. It’s not just a male thing despite what anyone says!
